American prison system is designed for punishment not rehabilitation, I have no problem with this but America as a whole might do

I agree with the principle which is to treat everyone humanely and with care and not like animals, the goal of prison for people not serving life sentences is to rehabilitate so when criminals re enter society they are changed individuals and do not recommit crimes. However, this wont ever fly in the united states with republicans having the political power they currently have, this are the same folks who want to cut food stamps for single parents and add tedious work requirements to government benefits all to harass poor folks, they think criminals who they see as mostly non white aresubhuman deserving no mercy or dignity so this wouldn't be feasible politically

In the past, they've been money makers. So much so that there is an over supply of them now.
But the typical Black criminal justice type isn't interested in getting their hands dirty. Maybe they want to do some social work or some therapy sessions - but to actually run a prison? And it's not like there aren't Black wardens. Just like there are plenty of Black prosecutors and cops .. See Freddie Gibbs and Killer Mike dads, and Rick Ross.... Most of the security officers tend to be Black, one of the few jobs they will give us..
We let them control the schools and the prisons, and wonder why state institutions produce and perpetuate monsters.

first time offenders (of not serious crimes like murder/rape) should go to a prison such as this one , so they can actually rehabilitate.
If you go through this prison , and get out and still being a menace then you get sent to the current prisons we have.

I've always thought the concept of "Prison as punishment" was stupid. I can inflict far more punishment on a dude who robs my house or rapes my daughter out in civilization than they will ever get in prison. Prison is to remove people from society to make society safer. It is also to rehab those who want it so they can re-integrate back into society. The "Prison as punishment" concept is suppose to be a deterrent, but its simply hasn't worked. Young boys don't have the life experiences to grasp the life long consequences of going to prison. So they do the stupid things to put themselves in prison regardless of how bad we make it.
Think of all the young black men going to prison between the ages of 16-22, during the time of their life when they should be starting a career or going to college. This is why the Black community desperately needs to find to end the war on drugs.

With a prison like this one, a lot of poor & homeless people would commit crimes just to go live there.

im not mad @the idea of non violent offenders getting to do they bid under these conditions though. Folks who actually still deserve to be rehabilitated.
I agree with the bolded, this should only be for minor/non-major offenses i'd even argue for drug addicts instead of the current prison system we have.
Also agree with your second point of if they are released and still fukk up they should then be sent to regular prison.
