The motives behind it vary, but it's definitely acquired.
Just like non-sexual racial relations, people look for or avoid certain races based on their exceptions from the stereotypes they've learned. Positive or negative.
One naturally being attracted or not attracted to certain races is a possibility, but I feel the racial tensions and stereotypes far more influences a person's preference.
If said racial tensions and stereotypes never existed, I'd be a lot more convinced if someone claimed they didn't like a certain feature like the afro because of the afro's appearance alone (rather than the negative stereotypes that come with people who have them).
