No question. A certain kind of smart though. It feels limiting.
Childhood nicknames were Professor and Doctor.
Used to win spelling bees and math awards without even trying.
Before dropping out of HS, admin basically allowed me to create my own curriculum and do my own thing.
Professors used to tell me I belong at Harvard and all that. They would allow me to skip classes and pre-reqs even at higher levels (advanced math, etc.).
Every college I've been to, people want me in honors, they want me as president of this and that, volunteer me to lead committees and all that.
HS dropout working in big tech.
People in tech often tell me I'm legit 1% talent.
Downside:
- Something is fukked up in my brain, I can't maintain focus and I can't stop overthinking everything.
- Dropout. A professor once said to me, "you're smart, and the smart people always quit." He was 100% correct.
- I cannot stick to anything at all. Too scatterbrained.
- Extremely socially awkward, almost debilitating so. Like, really odd mannerisms and such.
- Poor self-esteem
- Arrogance and over reliance on "intelligence."
The older I get, the more I realize how limiting being "smart" can be. Now I'm trying to learn a bunch of skills I should've learned at 13 or whatever. Oh well.
