This is weak and a late effort. Where was this strength when that well-known dimwit was offering him money? Where was Doc when all of Sterling's ugly racism became public fodder? He and the players had a chance to make a huge statement that would have echoed for decades...they chose to play a game and cash checks. Placing the game and their security over that enormous moment was cowardly because they were the only people in that moment with the real chance to do something revolutionary. They were forced there and then chose to back away and protect themselves. Many people agreed with their decision and I can understand that. But choosing personal security over taking the chance to change things for the good for future players/coaches/fans/etc is the easy way out and ought to be viewed accordingly, not ignored.
Now Doc wants to be a strong figure and stand up to these corporate forces who may indeed drive Sterling right back into the owner's chair, if just but for a while.
Be consistent, Doc. Just go to work. Trying to make some sort of change now is only going to make us wonder why you chose to ignore this sort of opportunity when it was at its most important. Had you rejected the money for these reasons, you win. Had you chose not to play those games, thus PAYING Sterling, you win. Now? Yeah you look fed up and perhaps trying to do at least something. But you missed your shot at the momentous...and you should be called out for it.
