:russ: its already happened... Obama sent 300 special forces there

And the rebel groups that were backed by the US hate the Americans...
The Kurds have been better but Turkey got pissed about US forces assisting them vs. ISIS

There isn't going to be a ground invasion of thousands upon thousands of troops. There's no political will and the US wasn't invited into Syria by the UN recognized government in Damascus.

Turkey already has combat forces in the north assisting some Free Syrian Army brigades and they haven't been able to take Al-Bab while the Syrian Army converges from Aleppo. Erdogan is talking about Raqqa and his forces have been stuck for months.

I really doubt there will be a big investment of US forces in Syria

The idea of "political will" even a variable in the equation when it comes to Trump though?

The only saving grace is that he has some politically minded people around him to dissuade him so you're probably right. Though if this doesn't happen, it won't be because of Trump's political calculations (or lack thereof).

ISIS would love this, would make some decent change from killing tons of Shia's and opposed Sunni people. Easier propaganda.

Yh I posted this in the other thread:

ISIS = :blessed:. If Trump does this he's dumb as fukk.

They've been campaigning for this for ages. The beheadings of those Americans on camera was partly to cause outrage and tip the scales in favour of intervention. Obama didn't fall for it tho. Just terrorised them with airstrikes.

In a 42-minute audio message uploaded to the internet the group's Syrian-born spokesman, who has taken the adopted name of Shaykh Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, mocks recent US air strikes and the moves to build an international coalition against Islamic State.

Addressing President Obama, the spokesman says: "Is this all you are capable of doing in this campaign of yours? Are America and all its allies... unable to come down to the ground?"

The US and French air strikes in Iraq are causing IS real damage - it has no effective military response to them - and for a number of reasons it really wants the US to commit ground troops to the battlefield.

"They are aching for a conflict with the West," commented Dr Peter Neuman, Director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, in London.

"The execution videos [of Western hostages] were bait to provoke an over-reaction. As soon as there are Western boots on the ground it then becomes the old narrative of the West versus Islam and they can claim they are fighting the occupation. They are trying to suck us in."

I'm fairly certain we can just bomb them out if we gave a few fukks. No need for boots.
But your president needs the optics badly.

During the 2020 campaign, you're not going to switch horses midstream are you?
