Nobody in Baseball puts up outrageous stats in the Triple Crown Categories anymore.

OPS, OPS+ and WAR isn't for the Casual fan.

Trout might be the best player since the days if Mantle/Mays but I know Ken Griffey hit 56HR and drove 145RBI back in the day

Puig could be marketable if he learns english. Surprised big papi didn't get marketed more over his career. He had the personality and name recognition.

Cabrera just won the Triple Crown two years ago and woulda won it again last year if he didn't play the last two months with a sports hernia. :childplease:

That's just the thing - nobody jumps out at me. This is kind of what I meant with "number 2" in my first post.
MLB is a complete failure when it comes to marketing their stars. I guess it works for them since their local ratings are always strong, stadiums are packed and WS ratings are usually good too.

Seems like it could be bigger if they pushed guys like Kershaw, Cabrera, Trout, Wainwright, Felix, Scherzer, Stanton, McCutchen, Tulo, Puig/Abreu (though it might be too soon for those guys from an adjustment standpoint), etc. Other guys that could be pushed are Adam Jones, Posey, Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, Carlos Gomez, Hanley Ramirez, Aroldis Chapman, Harvey, Kimbrel, Kluber, Victor Martinez, Altuve and Encarnacion.

Think about it, even when Pujols was putting up monster numbers, he didn't get a ton of pub; neither did Ichiro.

And if Mike Trout hit .331 he would have won MVP

My point was we've seen better lines in the past 20 years, than Miggy's Triple Crown year.

Ichiro was a bigger star in 2001 than Mike Trout is right now.

I think it has a lot to do with the language barrier. A lot of the stars are Latinos and they can't speak English. The white stars are all kind of cookie cutter. It doesn't seem like these guys have endorsements lining up like they used to.

If you remember back in the 90's Griffey, Bonds, Thomas... all these guys were all over the place and they had an aura about them. Even a guy like Clemens was fiery. I guess you could say Maddux and Glavine had the Nike commercials but that was just a brilliant campaign.

Kids used to grow up wanting to be baseball players too. I don't know what happened. Maybe the internet age and how everything moves quicker killed it for a lot of younger kids.. no more attention span. I can't blame them. The fukking games get longer and longer every year. They keep preaching on-base percentage and motherfukkers take one pitch and then call time or step outside the box. They need to speed this shyt up.

MLB off the Bat has actually done real well for MTV2 and that's all to market players individually

Half the guys you named are well known, but in their countries. I watched the HR Derby on ESPN Deportes and guys like Puig, Abreu, Bautista, all those guys are loose, have personality, and when you see them, they're kliqed up and ALWAYS good for a sound byte.

The one guy on your list that you named that doesn't get that kind of respect yet is Carlos Gomez and that's because he's still getting better and he's a villain here but gets crazy props in DR. You almost to market him in 2 different ways.

The World Baseball Classic flat out delivered from a marketing standpoint except for the US and that's cuz everyone knew they'd lose

2 minute mark: the whole DR team was shooting on how much better they were than everyone else. It wouldn't be appreciated the same way if they tried that in English

I feel like baseball is one good commissioner away from being back in the sports forefront. NFL and NBA will still be more popular but the MLB can still make it a race with the NBA if they get their house in order. Bud Selig still wears brown polyester suits and drives a Lincoln town car after he orders his grand slam from Denny's. Dude looks like he should be playing the organ at church and not the commisoner of a major sport.

If MLB was smart they'd jump behind Trout and Puig right now along with talking to Nike and getting them some sort of endorsement deals and do a Jordan Bird type of thing with them. You have two of the best players in a major market and they're not promoting this to the best of their ability. Do some sort of promotion with McDonald's and plaster these two in commercials for days.
