While at times I feel like the general tone of the Atlantic/NYT can be a bit overly alarmist. I’m not sure this subject falls into that category.
there’s been a concerted effort on the right to literally strip away voting rights via these new legislations. Gerrymandering themselves into power due to the acknowledgment on their end that the popular majority is too diverse and ideologically opposed to their policies.
As 2040 approaches where it’s expected for the US majority to be non-white; We’re literally seeing folks taking the ball of democracy and going home. It’s important to see what’s happening and call it out as it’s happening, rather than being confused about why we’re under minority rule after the fact.
