Does anyone still remember the PS3 launch fiasco?

It’s good to see the PlayStation back on top again but I still have nightmares about the PS3 launch cos that was bad.

It all started with that infamous E3 show with giant enemy crabs :mjlol:

Then there was the $599 price which was crazy. After a few months PS3s were sitting unsold in stores. Then they started losing so many exclusives: Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy…

I got one at launch and Motorstorm was decent but there were no decent games for a long time.
Sony became a laughing stock online. Remember Haze and Lair? :mjlol:

The first reallly good game was Warhawk. (Which to me is still the best online multiplayer I’ve ever played) They finally started getting their shyt in order with uncharted series, MGS4, and ended the generation with one of the greatest games ever made: TLOU. I still think the PS4 return to dominance

Those were some tough times not gonna lie.

They ultimately turned the ship around by the end of the generation. By cutting costs and producing great games

Alas, my fat PS3 YLOD. While my 360 is still alive and kicking.
Mine did as well which sucked cos it was the one that was BC with ps2 and ps1. The new ones didn’t

I just remember it being expensive as fukk.

This. Like, I get it. You getting a Blu Ray player, Other OS option (before Sony acted like dingbats and got rid of it), backwards compatibility, etc. 599 for the time, especially during the beginning stages of the recession was silly as hell. If it wasn't for my old classmate that demostrated how he put linux on his PS3, I wouldn't even jumped on copping the 80gb at the time.

599 US dollars

Even adjusted for inflation today that amount still would have people looking at you funny

Then to top it all off it didn't even have any games people wanted to play

I remember being so desperate for rpg games I was looking at eternal sonata and star ocean 4 the last hope like they were worth a damn

I had a launch PS3 (non wifi version) which also YLOD. I fixed it myself, and it YLOD again a few months ago, and I said fukk it and got a slim by that time.

both my PS2 and PS3 bricked. PS1/PS4/PS5 have been great.
