After Planet Namek was destroyed the whole series went into a slow but steady decline. The show was a lot better without all the over the top Super Saiyan transformations. Super Saiyan level 10! so on and so forth. Goku should have died on the planet and Super Saiyan lvl 1 was enough.

That's not really accurate though.The animation is bearable (thought it can be awful at times). It's the writing which is the issue. I've read fanfictions which I believe have better writing
At this point the plot of DB is: Bad guy comes--> Goku's sidekicks fight some of the lower level guys---> eventually get their assess kicked----> finally get saved by goku
that's going a bit too far back. Super could be so much better
In the Beerus saga everybody including Goku got they ass beat and Goku was only able to do any to Beerus with the God form and even with that he was no real match for Beerus.
Now this current saga is what you said but it's really just a saga to get the SSJB form across.
But the saga that's incoming isn't gonna be like that though so just wait on it. This tournament saga about to be lit.

Super is kinda getting across that all those SSJ forms were pointless overall.
That's why Goku & Vegeta are training to become stronger in their base forms and Super Saiyan atm.

I havent taken the time to watch Super. Should I, or am I wasting my time? I keep hearing diff opinions. Is the fight scenes up to snuff as in how DBZ was traditionally done? Or is it just people shooting ki blast at one another till someone gets hit? I watched DBZ all the way up to mid Buu saga it started to get redundant.

I think it's dope, but it did have a rocky start. Beerus saga was drawn out for much longer than it needed to be and the fight choreography was kinda weak but got better as the fight went on but again it went on for too long.
The current saga has been much imo and has been getting better reception and we haven't had another animation break down again (episode 5).
Im hoping the fight choreography for the rest of the Frieza fight will be better and so far it is outside of some bad looking energy ball clashes and stiff movements. Rn I'm hoping they start following the manga with the next saga so we can get much better fight choreography.
But honestly if animation bugs you you can just watch the BOG & Resurrection F movies and wait for the next arc in Super to start on January 24th.
