I'm not into most new rappers
So I've only heard 1 Kendrick song before (it was the bonus song about California)
I see all the critical acclaim online about his new album
nikkas sayin it's better than Illmatic lyrically and a top 10 album ever
I just read some1 say it's the 2012 ready to die

So I 'buy' the album last night
I listen to it straight through
Total concentration

The album is ok
I follow the story
A couple of hot songs
But in no way was my mind blown
Or think that was some ill slick shyt he said

It didn't sound like 98% of the garbage on the radio
And he sounds like he can rap
But never did the word classic come to mind

I guess just because something ain't garbage, it's good?

its gotta sit and only time will tell if a year or two down the line people will still feel the same way about it. it was a lotta hype though. there's been such garbage in the mainstream for the past few years its refreshing to hear a big name retail album thats worth the money.

u can feel any way u want about kendrick but he loves his music and didnt sacrifice his sound for his major label debut. the most important thing about this album is it selling so much in the first week. hopefully the majors got the idea that good music sells and won't force rappers to do the generic sound thats dominated so much of the mainstream.

It's OK that not everyone likes everything the same amount.

Yep. :manny:

These kinda threads annoy me when people aint gettin the greatness but I have to remind myself its the same with every great project. You always gonna have people who dont fukk with it.

The album classic damn near flawless though :hmm:

It kinda annoys me that AZ's Doe Or Die isn't credited as being better than Illmatic

Stayed on track with the direction and sound of the album, very very dope lyrics, some beats were ehhhh

Is anybody who's calling it a classic from NYC?
Or is that a west coast thing

With K.L. he dropped a story based album that is great. Appreciate the art delivered. Lyricism is great, but at the end of the day i want some good music with a story/and or substance with lyricism. This album has that...
