As been mentioned, she's been popping on the low in CAC/gay/twitter circles for years.

This album they have gone super extra hard to give her a mainstream push. Her music isn't bad and she can kinda rap and is outspoken but she never even targeted the "hood" or "urban radio" so it makes sense she never got play there. She makes good music and visuals, and a bunch of fat/chubby people have gotten successful and even gone pop, her previous music style was just too weird for most people I always thought.

They've been pushing this current album so hard, I've almost purposely not listened, which is dumb, I admit.
