I stopped watching TV back in July of 2008 after taking some media communications classes and went too deep down the rabbit hole regarding racial stereotypes and propaganda. And just fukked with the internet since then.

I must say, my self image improved VASTLY!!!!!! :obama:My confidence went through the roof. I became more inclined to read more and exercise more...I made extreme strides in that time.

I'm sorry brehs, television is poison for the black mind. It perpetuates this standards (default whiteness etc) makes black people hate themselves and each other. It makes black men hate black women and see them as gross, it kills black people's self esteem, it makes them worship whiteness and feel resentful for not being white. fukk everything about TV. I swear I see more positive and empowering stuff for black people by black people on the internet every day since I stopped watching TV then in all of the 20 years I watched TV.

Your self conscious is being assaulted everyday by groups that want to influence you to spend your money or carry out there agenda. After awhile you will realize your thoughts are not your own but mixture of external influences that you've allowed to trick you.

It actually makes me want to seek out people who are NOTHING like I see on television.

Every thing about life has an affect, but the key is to still have enough self control to realize my own worth. A lot of people give outsiders too much power whether it's the media or other people in general.

A Mississippi Cotton Field
short answer to the topic: yes, it does.

Sort of long-ish answer:

99% of media is made to lie to you about who you are, what you should think, how you should dress, what you should buy and who you should shun.

If you pay attention in the slightest, you'll start to believe what you're told and adapt it as true, because:

A. You're being told by an authority what is true (people in the media)
B. The people that you wish to be surrounded by act as if it's true.

The human psyche is VERY very malleable. And as far as mass media is concerned, if you're black? You're constantly taught to make bad decisions, be as ignorant as possible in all situations, to be educated as a worker bee and all we have is SDE, to shun other blacks if they aren't part of your "team", that a ghetto mentality is all that exists no matter where you are, that we were slaves and if all else fails pray and do nothing.

Even something as "small" and "innocent" as the way trends come and go and the way people change with said trends should tell you exactly how much power the media has over the masses.
