i got my confidence from reading about my people. my respect and love for black folk never came from what i saw on tv. i never understood this connection.
Television and Western Media is not designed to empower black people. At all.

I love hip-hop, but that's probably the biggest and best thing I have discovered from TV way back in the late 80s early 90s...and back then it was on that pro black tip/.

Now I notice this media is self-serving for whites. It basically says black people aren't good enough as they are and have to aspire to conform to white standards that we'll never fit into. Look at how the Academy and other esteemed white awards shows give out awards to black people playing roles as servants or as something passive subservient role. or It's poison. Television is the main reason many black people are still mentally enslaved.

Media will/does indoctrinate. It is a layered/tiered attack/methodology. We are most vulnerable in childhood/preadolescence, without parental molding a child will absorb thru entertainment/peer influence. That's TV/radio and social elements/conformity influences naturally.

Being mindful that the overall purpose is marketing=affect consumerism. How do we spend our dollars?
Another aspect is based on the "life imitating art" effect, for instance if I am a young black teen growing up in the last 3 decades...who do I imitate readily via television. What archetype presentation is most prevalent? Pimp, O-dog, Jay-Z, Jordan, etc. If I am a young minority female, it's even worse, becuase now we crawl into defined beauty standards etc.

It matters.

Television and the media is the reason why women of color are the BIGGEST supporters of white supremacy.

I don't care if I get negged for this comment. STRAIGHT UP. That shyt be conditioning them to prefer white men as suitable mate material. And make it seem as men of their own race are just inferior. Seriously. And this is why...

Alot of women are weak minded and easily impressionable. They want to be validated by white society through white men seeing them as "attractive" They don't understand white supremacy. They don't understand racism and it's levels. Now, don't get me wrong, there are those that do...but most just see white people on top and disregard how they got there. They just want a piece of the pie. It's that whole "mejor la raza" type thinking :mjpls: That "it's easier being white" type of thinking.

I could write tons of long ass posts....

This is what we're surrounded by.

Imagine you take part in a small study group. Let's say..... 20 people. You're told it's a consensus thing and they'll pay you 500 bucks a day to answer some noninvasive questions as a group over three days. It'll take you 20-30 minutes a day, max. No brainer.

First day, you go and meet the other 19 people. You're all in a room with chairs at a table. Lots of cool folks of all makes and races. Couple of cute chicks. You all hit it off well. You hit it off with one of the girls. She laughs at your dumb jokes and shyt.

Guy who's gonna ask the questions comes in. Everyone sits. He explains the deal, tells some stale jokes to break the mood. Asks 20 questions. What's your favorite food and the like. Favorite sport, if you like sports. What time to you sleep. etc. Encourages discussions. We're all friends here.

Question 17: he holds up a blue card and asks you what color it is.

You: ":beli: Blue!"

Everyone else at the same time: ":beli: Red!"

You: ":dwillhuh:"

Everyone else: ":dwillhuh::comeon::francis::usure::jbhmm::dahell::lupe:"

Questions continue. Somebody in the back whispers ":sas1:nikka makin jokes"

Everybody leaves, girl cant wait to see you tomorrow, but gives you a kinda concerned look.

Day 2: more of the same. Question 11: what color is this card?

You: ":dwillhuh: Blue!"

Everyone else at the same time: ":beli: Red!"

Girl whispers ":lupe:are you okay? you aren't colorblind or anything, are you?"

A normal person would think about it. Might pass it off as being on some shyt like Punk'd and everybody's in on the joke but them. But they'll think about it. Stare at red lights. Look at their wardrobe. Hold up coke cans and ask his boys if it's red or not. Might get slick and ask them to pass them the red whatever, be smugly satisfied when they hand it to them. Cause its red.

Third day, though.... when that girl treats you a little differently, and you're waiting on the instructor to hold up that blue card? What's your answer gonna be? What are you gonna do if everyone hesitates just to see what you say?

:demonic: that, my friends, is media in a nutshell.

I have come to understand that the process is effective even for adults. You want proof? The dynamic changes of course, but the method and effect is easier to grasp. Look at politic driven media. You have a circus of news media influencing the way millions of supposed adult minds "capable of complex and independent thought" reduced to fear mongering, divisive, and under educated/motivated mass. Look at our community, you have popular culture driving the presentation of adult black men....30+ yr old men wearing fitted hats indoors, frivolous shoe spending, dressing like teenagers, perpetuating petty crime culture etc. I am not saying those things are bad entirely...a bit immature...yes. Lets put it this way, it's hard to take a man seriously if he doesn't present himself as one. :yeshrug:

Everyone is affected by media, the extent just varies. Media is not just television content either. Everything that media encompasses is designed to make a target audience feel a certain way, tell us what to value/devalue, what is important, etc. People are usually just oblivious or when you point things out people say "take your tin foil hat off." With TV shows/movies, people sit in a room and decide who to cast/who is appropriate for what role, what content should be shown (or not shown), among other things. With advertisements, it's the content, which ads run on which channel, what time, during which shows/events and similar things can be said about music, video games, books and other media. Everything is by design and for many forms, the basis is derived from the designer's experiences, which is why it's imperative that a Black media come to the forefront at some point in the future.

me and some other dudes were posting about that train of thought briefly a few weeks ago. How White America basically underminded the entirety of African America by corrupting the women.

It's a hard thing to look at or speak on, though. We were all born from women. It's not something that a lot of people would dare look at, no less speak on.

At the very least, we must hate women, been hurt by women or must not get any p*ssy.

I've consumed less and less media as time passes. Now all my tv is good for is sports. There is so much media tho between internet and television that the effects are probably diluted a bit more now

Out here in my damn drawls
I've always found similarities in my personality with characters moreso than my race or the way I look

As far as the news outlets go and shyt, they cover what they want for a reason. It's rarely anything positive about black people covered, but I know better

i was wacthing jasmine guy being on bet centric and she commented on the fact that because of a different world a comedy show, enrollment in hsbc has tripled since the show aired. my question is do these shows really have this affect or is this Hollywood bs?

It affects men and women (not all of them, but a lot, especially if they're young). The males would never admit it though. lol
