What's the point of money if you're not happy?

What's the point of having money if you can't share it with people?

Just some thoughts I was having today after reading the article about the Swedish billionaire who is depressed. We think money makes you happy but it doesn't. People, love and living life makes you happy not money or material things.

Just something to think about.

Do you guys feel the key to your happiness is money?

Happy? Not necessarily.

But it makes life a lot easier. I'm a sr. software engineer, my wife is a recruiting manager at a prestigious institution. We track our financials in YNAB but beyond that we don't really *think* about money, in the sense that we aren't really worried about not having it (right now....in this economy anything could change). We have over a year salary saved in liquid accounts and more than that in retirement/investment accounts. "Financial freedom" can make you happy in a sense because it's a burden lifted off your shoulders and allows you to enjoy life more. {1}
Right now we are saving over $5k a month (not including retirement which are maxed out to the federal limits) because we want to enjoy a similar quality of life when we get old.We are just saving it being safe (I think the market is set for a reset soon and we already have investments etc) but I hope to diversify into real estate
