:ohhh:

. . . .yo . . .

DJ QUIK . . does he double his vocals
Suga Free? @stomachlines @shopthatwrecks

. . Mac Dre?

I should clarify,

A. when I say "most", I'm referring to mainstream rappers.
B. I'm referring to doing it the entire verse/song(like that Ross verse), not just on certain words for emphasis

Actually, I guess TI does it still quite often.

And yeah that song you posted is doubled, tripled on some parts

So it's rare that rappers double their entire verse rather than just a few words to provide emphasis?

I just assumed that everything was double and then some additional vocals for emphasis

nah, you can clearly hear when it's done. When you record a vocal on top of another vocal, even if you do it perfectly on beat, you can stil hear it b/c there's always a slight inconsistency in the voice. I mean you can add a chorus effect and kinda sound like a double, or you can take the audio and just copy/paste it onto another track if ur lazy. You might also be hearing an echo effect too.

But a true double is easy to hear.

For example, off hand I dont recall Drake, Wayne(as of late), Jay Z or Kanye doing it these days

(and check my edit on previous post)

well probably on the chorus at times to make it stand out from the verses. But again, you can hear it when it's there.

What's more fascinating to me is some R&B producers do 10 vocal tracks when doing background/harmony vocals. So you got the main vocal in the center(sometimes it's doubled), and then 4 additional vocals(harmonies) panned right, and 4 to the left.

you mean like do they (quik and suga) layer their vocals? yeah, i think they do from time to time

like on doe doe and da skunk, on the chorus it sounds like suga doubled his vocals

Thank you both for your contributions to this thread, much appreciated
