It’s all about implementation. See the problem is that in the US recycling policies are meant moreso for public appearance purposes than anything else. It’s not tied to any rational/logical system. In Chicago we have recycling containers etc but the contracting process is corrupt - so the sorting centers can only accommodate very specific types of materials. And if they get something else they end up charging the city extra money and thus the entire process is a net revenue loss. First of all the items should be separated from the source. Instead we dump all “recycleables” in one receptacle. Stupid. Every home should have a can for paper, plastics and glass. On pickup day the truck comes by and as you dump in the items it should weigh what you’ve contributed and at the end of the year you get a small check for whatever you recycled.

I believe burning, incinerating, throwing into live volcano etc. all release toxins and other bad shyt into the air.

Hurling it towards the sun however sounds ok, but probably insanely expensive.

I'm almost a recycling extremist. If I can avoid tossing something in the trash I will and I try to limit my plastic use as much as possible. But I realize it's all ultimately fruitless.

It would take a massive culture shift the likes of which we've never seen to ween ourselves off this plastic addiction. And how we perceive of anything that gets thrown out as magically disappearing from existence, never to trouble anyone or anything ever again, has become too ingrained in out pysche.

I haven't even got into the economic costs of forcing businesses to change their wastr production practices.

Earth is fukked.

I'm assuming whoever has stock or crops in hemp is loving the plastic banning wave happening, albeit slowly.
