He's talked about wanting to coach, but doesn't want to be an assistant, wants to go straight to the head coach.

Maybe Phil can "negotiate" with Scottie too so some team can make him the 4th highest paid coach in the league.

He wants to coach. He said in 2012 that he'd love to coach if a team hired Phil Jackson as their GM.

From Scottie Pippen wants NBA head coaching job - ESPN Chicago

Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen said Tuesday his goal in the next few years is to become an NBA head coach, and he said it would be "great" if the team he coaches has Phil Jackson in the front office.

"It is (my goal to be head coach)," Pippen said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I still enjoy the game. I'm around the game. I'm a guy that has always loved basketball, and I love being a part of it."

There were rumblings during the summer that the Orlando Magic were flirting with Jackson for a possible executive role with the understanding Pippen would be the coach, but Jackson withdrew from consideration and that scenario disappeared.

Asked if during the offseason he was close to becoming a coach, Pippen said: "No, I don't think so. I just think it was some rumors that got out there. Nothing really stuck. I can't say I sat down to talk to any team about being a head coach."

Pippen, who is an ambassador for the Chicago Bulls, was considered one of the greatest defensive forwards in NBA history, but he has no coaching experience. That may be why, ideally, Pippen would like to be reunited with Jackson. The two combined with Michael Jordan to win six titles with the Bulls in the 1990s.

"That would be great," Pippen said. "Phil is a great person, a great mind for the game and I know he still wants to be a part of the game, so if that scenario were to happen, yes, it would be great to be able to work for a guy who's been your mentor throughout your career."

I think Scottie isn't a people person
wrong. scottie is considered the greatest team mate amongst bulls players that have played with him. he was the gel of those bulls championship run. whenever mike shytted on someone, scottie was their to pick them up. he's just not a media person and he definitely ain't gonna sign no autograph

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
So WHY is everyone jocking for Kerr, when you have one of the best floor leaders ever wanting to be a coach :mindblown:
i'd say it was a black thing but it's clearly not

but still.. for some reason, winners like mark jackson, lionel hollins, pippen (as a player) can't even get an interview

meanwhile stan van gundy getting president and coach jobs.. what's he done.. and steve kerr comes straight off of tv to one of the best teams in the league

Stan Van Gundy has done more than Lionel Hollins and Mark Jackson combined though. :snoop:

I guess any ball player can get a coaching gig these days, Chalmers will be coaching the Heat in 10 years

Chalmers wouldn't make it through training camp. Nobody would respect him.

More and more GMs want guys willing to incorporate analytics to help them distribute minutes among their players. That why guys like Kerr and Brad Stevens are getting jobs, and oldheads like Doug Collins and Lionel Hollins are stuck without a job.
