James Dean
All Star
Very bold for WWE to do the old quick match Goldberg routine in this day and age. Wrestling character wise it makes sense, but in reality does it really? We live in a more reality based wrestling world. The lines are blurred for the vocal fans. People aren't seeing this as a dominant force. They are seeing this as an old guy coming in and beating a current star. And old guy who is having quick matches because the truth is, he can't work a long match anymore. Doesn't help either that he's WCW bred with a very little relevance to WWE history. Of course, there are fans who dont care about any of that shyt and thats well and good. I honestly wish more fans would buy into the other side more but those days are long gone. And with the influence of the internet it just intensifies. People worry more about part timer this, putting people over that and not more into the story being told or the wrestling bubble of it all. Im surprised that they have milked it for this long but Im not too sure the future looks bright. Im sitting back and taking it all in. Berg is my dude, but I'd be lying if this isnt risky as hell. Hes gotten surprisingly good reactions which says a lot about time and nostalgia. But it can only go so far.
I expect this to be the turning point of Goldberg. Smarks turned on him and the novelty is starting to wear off for them judging by the online reactions. The funny thing is, I expect an anti Goldberg and pro Brock lesnar crowd at Mania. Which is hilarious all the way around because its the same situation. Boo the part timer Goldberg who beat the full time talent but cheer the part time Brock who does the same thing and will surely disappear with the title like he did in 2014. Brock will get heel heat too but I dont think both men will be getting a 2004 flashback.
