It matters to purists, both from an artist perspective and a listeners perspective.

I bet these new kids don't know shyt about making a great album. They just think it's a bunch of songs and their "albums" sound like mixtapes as a result.

The thought hit me when I was on Spotify looking at the greatest hits album for a classic soul group and all the tracks were in alphabetical order. :dahell:

Anyway, there used to be a science to this track order shyt. In the 90s you could be certain that track #7 or #13 were bangers. Albums typically loaded the best single as one of the first few tracks too.

But nowadays does it even matter? :jbhmm:

Of course. What kind of question is this?

Of course not. If I can remove tracks with the push of a button, then I'm more in control of how the album is sequenced than the artist themselves.

No it doesn't because albums are pretty much obsolete. Music is no longer designed to play from beginning to end. I mean, albums started to taper off in the 90's when cassettes were phased out. People pretty much listen to the standout songs in random order. Something like Kendrick's TPAB begs to be played from front to back because the story progresses from track to track.
