Yes and no.
You'll get a pretty good picture with any TV.
But to those with a sharp eye there can be some very noticeable differences.
There's also input lag to consider, but again its not something that's very noticeable to most people.

Yes, input lag is definitely important. Check www.displaylag.com or google the input lag of the TV you are considering before you buy it.
I remember watching a YouTube video called "your aim sucks" that broke down how much a good tv really matters in a competitive setting. If you plan on playing online shooters, or fighting games, then your TV will definitely matter.
