Greyhounds originate from ancient Egypt though :ohhh:

Also central African hunters use the Basenji to assist in hunts.

The breed's origin has in popular literature often romantically been connected to Ancient Egypt, in which it is believed "that the breed dates back about 4,000 years "[55][56] a belief for which there is no scientific evidence. While similar in appearance to Saluki (Persian Greyhound) or Sloughi (tombs at Beni Hassan c. 2000 BC), analyses of DNA reported in 2004 suggest that the Greyhound may not be closely related to these breeds, but is a close relative to herding dogs.[57][58] Historical literature on the first sighthound in Europe (Arrian), the vertragus, the probable antecedent of the Greyhound, suggests that the origin is with the ancient Celts from Eastern Europe or Eurasia. Greyhound-type dogs of small, medium, and large size, would appear to have been bred across Europe since that time. All modern, pure-bred pedigree Greyhounds are derived from the Greyhound stock recorded and registered, firstly in the private 18th century, then public 19th century studbooks, which ultimately were registered with coursing, racing, and kennel club authorities of the United Kingdom.

Ok ok

But then you forced me to fork to this :gladbron:
In 2008, a DNA study indicated that the Sloughi is a genetically unique population of sighthounds and the genetic sequences it shares with the Basenji, Sica, and Nguni indicate that this breed is, on the maternal side, embedded in Africa, possibly for thousands of years.[3] Therefore, it should not to be confused with the smooth Saluki of the Arabian peninsula and the Middle East, nor to be confused with the smooth Afghan Hound. The Sloughi was and still is used for hunting in its native countries, and also is a reliable guard dog. Today, the Sloughi is found mainly in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. Morocco is responsible for the breed's FCI Standard. The Sloughi is one of the two African Sighthound breeds recognized by the FCI.

Also the sloughi is phenotypically very similar to the greyhound. Thoughts?:jbhmm:

One species but the vast majority of dog breeds come from Europe while the cat was the preferred animal in the Nile valley the exception won't change the rule :yeshrug:

Full bred dogs were created by the white man. Before a 150 years ago nobody knew what a full bred dog was. All dogs were mutts with stronger immune systems. All these pure bred dogs are so inbred and it causes a lot of health issues.
