Bigger that any of the recent developments in the Russia Case and this isn't on the first page and only has 2 replies? Guess people forgot about how far reaching the release of The Panama Papers went...
When Nap makes mention of the Panama Papers it is important to recall that the Journo that published these leaks last year was killed in a car bomb shortly after their release
Good to see the DOJ seemingly following up on what was a strange series of events last year.
from an article:
Richard Gaffey, a U.S. citizen; Ramses Owens, 50, of Panama; and
Dirk Brauer, 54, and Harald Joachim Von Der Goltz, 81, both German citizens, were charged in an
indictment unsealed on Tuesday, according to a
Department of Justice press release.
"They had a playbook to repatriate untaxed money into the U.S. banking system. Now, their international tax scheme is over, and these defendants face years in prison for their crimes,” Berman said.
Prosecutors say Owens and Brauer, while working with Mossack Fonseca clients, marketed, created, and serviced sham foundations and shell companies in foreign countries to conceal U.S. taxpayers' actual incomes from the IRS, the Justice Department said in a statement.
Seems like the got 3 brehs that were running the jig in Panama and one of their clients, but who's money they were moving is the real question and that is likely the direction that this case will lead to.
Interesting times ahead if they pull this string, but likely could fizzle out into a nothingburger if no more media attention is paid to it
