Dollar Tree hikes prices 25%. Most items will cost $1.25 - CNN

New York (CNN Business)Dollar Tree will soon be $1.25 tree.

The company — one of America's last remaining true dollar stores — said Tuesday it will raise prices from $1 to $1.25 on the majority of its products by the first quarter of 2022. The change is a sign of the pressures low-cost retailers face holding down prices during a period of rising inflation.
Dollar Tree (DLTR) said in a quarterly earnings release Tuesday that its decision to raise prices to $1.25 permanently, however, was "not a reaction to short-term or transitory market conditions."

Selling stuff strictly for $1 hampered Dollar Tree, the company said, and forced it stop selling some "customer favorites." Raising prices will give Dollar Tree more flexibility to reintroduce those items, expand its selection and bring new products and sizes to its stores.

Dollar Tree also said that hiking prices will help the company increase its profit margins by "mitigating historically high merchandise cost increases," including freight and distribution costs, as well as wage increases.
"This is the appropriate time to shift away from the constraints of the $1 price point," CEO Michael Witynski said in a statement.

Price gouging at it again. Trying to make up for lost profits during the Pandemic.

:scust:The thought of me ever going in there again after only paying a dollar an item for over 20 years

I went in there this summer to grab a few things after moving and 80% of those items went in the trash or were replaced by better items from Walmart, Target, and Amazon, so it won't be a loss

I've never known any of these dollar stores to have all $1 items anyway. Atleast here in north florida
Dollar Tree has always been $1 for anything in the store. I’ve been all over Florida and many other states and have never seen a Dollar Tree have items that cost more than a dollar. There isn’t a price tag on anything in the store unless it’s a sign for something less than a dollar

It’s crazy dollar stores have been around for decades and people still don’t know the difference between them or understand the value in them…

People in here probably confusing dollar tree with other dollar theme stores, like Family Dollar, Dollar General and various independent off brands called Dollar something.

They are for sure but I think it’s crazy that people don’t know the difference. That also tells me people over pay for A LOT of things. Just an example; if you don’t have much money you can build a whole home repair tool set for about $5-10, tool box and all lol. Get a whole decorative dish set with matching glasses and whatever for $10. 6ft micro USB, USB C, micro to C adapters…Just little shyt like that is what makes me appreciate Dollar Tree
