This sounds like he's got totally different engineers/mixing from Yellow Album/Get Home Safely.

shyt sounds muddied, production is dope but his vocals don't sound like they sit well in the mix. Doesn't help that his delivery is lazier than usual

Yeah I was bumping Yellow Album and Get Home Safely this weekend and those two just sound MUCH better mixed/engineered.

What the fukk was Dom thinking putting out shytty quality mixes? His vocals sound awful in these, like they're not even mixed. It sounds like he got these mixed by a nikka who was new to the game and Dom ain't wanna pay for better engineering but I hope that's not the case.

I have been learning a lot more about mixing and mastering the past year but I was curious if any of you bruhs know, what techniques would an engineer use to enhance Dom's vocals or let them in the mix better? Because on Yellow Album it just sounds cleaner, crispier, his voice is like an instrument with the beat on those albums. On this new joint, you can hear his vocals almost sitting OVER the beat and just riding along with the production. Does this make sense? I can hear it btu maybe I'm not explaining it rihght. Either way, it sounds like shyt and I'm thoroughly disappointed in my nikka Dom :to:

i mean the joints sound like raw vocals, with no mixing, compression or reverb

album sounded like dom recorded it on his phone while he drove to work :to:

I'm not an engineer so I don't know the technical terms but the way you described it is pretty accurate.

It's especially noticeable with indie / amateur artists because a lot of times they can't get the stems from the producer. Found it online, don't wanna pay bread, etc. that prevents the engineer from being able to layer those vocals into the mix of each instrument, instead he's just gonna put your vocals on top of the track and do the best he can.

Highly doubt that's the case with Dom here, I think it's just a different engineer of lower quality. Getting the vocal mixing right on those type of lo-fi beats is tough, that's part of the reason that Yellow Album sounded so :blessed::blessed::blessed:

The vox aren't bad enough that it sounds naked. They've definitely been mixed down, but the attention to detail that I've seen from him the last 3-4 years just isn't there.

Its funny cause By Dom Kennedy was mixed and mastered properly. Say what you want about that album but it sounded good.
