It actually was Vic Power.

From Bill James' Historical Baseball Abstract:
(page 469)

After his playing career, Power was active in youth sports programs in San Pedro de Macoris. He is one of the key reasons - perhaps the key reason - why this village became the world's richest source of baseball talent.

My favorite Vic Power story... Vic Power in a restaurant in Syracuse, 1951. An embarrassed waiter shuffles up to him and explains "I'm sorry, sir, we don't serve colored people."
"That's OK," says Power. "I don't eat colored people."

Vic Power was Puerto Rican, for those who aren't familiar with him.

Yes great story. My dad talked to me as a kid about Vic Power who was an afro puerto rican like Roberto Clemente.

Meh

TBH, I'm a Black male and not attracted to black women. Not sure what's wrong with dudes on this website but me and most of the black dudes I know IRL prefer White girls and Latinas.

Cant hate us for our sexual preferences.

For my father and Uncle and grandpa it was a way to stay connected back home. My dad tells me stories of coming here in 1978 at 13 years old and always reading the box scores JUST to see what the Dominican ball players did. He was a fan of any team that had a dominican in it. He also liked other Hispanic players because he too was a huge fan of vic powers. But dominican players were like heroes to him and my uncle.

It's funny because til this day whenever me or my younger uncles and cousins spot a Latino last name in baseball, we always call my dad and grandpa to ask if they dominican just so we can cheer for them too.

I used to love beisbol as a shorty. Used to play in all kinds of leagues. One day I just became bored with the game and never looked back. My pops was mad as shyt because I was good. Just didn't like the game anymore :manny:
