@BulwarkOnline
Bessent: "Walmart will be absorbing some of the tariffs. Some may get passed on to consumers."

@KellyScaletta
Added context: When he says, "Walmart," he doesn't mean the board members, he means the employees.

All will get passed on to consumers. From Walmart any every other company.

@InvestKaye
So Bessent clearly accepts that due to Tariff the higher cost will be passed to consumers 😉

I thought republicans were the party of small government.

Now the head of the republican party is telling a private business what prices to set? What kind of upside down clown world am I living in...

The Republicans as a whole sold their party principles for power.

Walmart didn't "eat" the tariffs last time like Bessent claims, they still passed the costs on to us over time. This is just the same con all over again. It's crazy to me how willing some people are to believe what Trump and his corporate partners say. All this is, is him telling them to shut up and wait for their corporate tax-cuts.

Trump low key does some left wing stuff unintentionally.

If a Dem president said this "free market" cacs would be livid.
its pretty wild

but technically there is a difference between being for "free market" when its within your country compared to the global economy

other nations dont pay into the systems america does so its not necessarily free market anymore once you introduce other countries economies into the fray

People are stupid enough to take this at face value.

They're going to fire people and raise prices anyway but then these idiots will say "well the prices could've been higher. Remember when we said that they should eat the tariffs and we called them and they said they would? Well this is them doing that. Biden wouldn't have done something like that!"

Of course their parrots who are so devoid of the ability to even form basic thought will repeat that shyt over and over again when you tell them why the prices rose to begin with. Their friends in the media will move on too and change the message to "trump got Walmart to reduce prices, are they low enough?"

Over the last five years I keep asking myself whether I've become more intelligent or if people are just getting so lazy and stupid that they don't care to do a basic analysis of what has happened before and what has been said before. It's like the collective memory shrinks every year. I think covid unleashed an epidemic in America. The epidemic of fact-resistant stupidity. Its like a virus that resists all anti biotics. You either have to let it kill the host(social collapse) cut off the infection (send these morons to die in a war) or try to invent a new treatment( government overhaul)

1 and 2 often feel far more likely than 3, but 1&2 can lead to 3. It happened in Germany. They went from a prosperous empire, then economically ruined after ww1, then tried it again and lost a second time in ww2 and had their government overhauled and changed to limit something like that happening again. The country became peacefully prosperous and hasn't tried to start shyt with its neighbors ever since and has become one of the strongest countries in Europe economically and educationally.

America feels like it's on the same track.

I respect your point but I don't believe Americans (as a whole) are capable of that level of instropectiveness. They are willing to let their children die of diseases long thought to be all but eradicated, move from homes to trailers, and damn near starve before admitting daddy Trump is basically the Presidential equivalent of the dad that leaves for milk and cigarettes but never comes back.
