Uproxx dug up some of the back story and the details are pretty savage.

The three beat and stabbed the 73-year-old Kansas man who was staying in the room, stole numerous collectors’ coins from him and used his debit card to withdraw money from an ATM, according to court documents.


After stealing the man's credit card, two of the suspects went to an ATM at a Texaco to try to get cash.


At least one suspect remained at the hotel with the victim and tortured him until he gave the robbers the correct PIN number.

Police arrested the three the same day. They still had the items belonging to the man, along with his truck, which they also stole court documents said.
