All-Time Draft Listing: QB 1980 -- 2012 - Pro-Football-Reference.com

Yuck.... This probably does not apply to 2002, but as for the more recent ones, my theory is all this proliferation of the spread in college and HS where the QB is in the gun anywhere from 90-100% of the game is contributing mightily to all these recent overall bad QB drafts. Even the old wishbone QBs who got drafted came into the league knowing how to take a damn snap from under C, whereas nowadays you have guys who have to be shelved for a year just to learn that skill alone, along with all the hand-off steps that are necessary for the play-action game in the pros. I grew up in the era of the Holy Trinity (Montana, Elway, Marino), and maybe that spoiled me, but what I would give to see overall QB play like in those days again. :ohlawd:

As for this past QB draft, me thinks down the road this one will be viewed in the same stinky boat as the others mentioned.

Well, I think there are 6 QB’s making more than him on an annual basis. So he’s at #7 right this second. Contracts are ALWAYS like this. A guy gets what seems like too much and then 5 minutes later, 3 more players get more and all of the sudden it doesn’t look like such a golden deal. Once Matt Ryan gets his deal, then Stafford will be #8 . Then Cam get’s his deal etc. This is not a short term extension by any means. The 3 years got tacked onto what Stafford had left, so it locks him up for 5 years. I saw a stat the other day that showed that the Lions receivers dropped 9.2% of the passes thrown their way that were deemed catchable balls. What happens to Stafford’s numbers AND the number of wins if that number is lower. What happens if our defense held teams to only 3 TD’s per game?? The answer is we go 9-7. If not for ST’s we start the season 3-1 as opposed to 1-3. I know all QB’s go through drops and defensive woes, but when you start talking worst in the NFL type impact…. We were worst in the NFL in drops. Our running game saw the least amount of stacked boxes in the NFL, ie leaving those extra guys in coverage which directly impacts Stafford. Our ST was the first in NFL history to allow TD’s in back to back games and our field position sucked, we constantly lost that battle. So it’s not necessarily what Stafford is with worst in the NFL support. It’s what he can be when we shore up those deficiencies.

I hate when other teams fans who clearly don't watch the Lions comment. People talk about his side arm throw. He rarely does it and when he does its because he is avoiding another player. People just using ESPN go to lines.

I can't tell you shyt about any other teams but the Lions and a little bit about the Bengals. As I watch every game Stafford has every played in. When it comes to other teams I can't tell you shyt. People talking about giving Megatron his bonus clearly didn't watch the season before last. When Matt threw for 3700 yards to other receivers not named Calvin. This is when Burleson was healthy, Pettigrew held on to the ball and Titus Young had his head on straight.

If you watched Matt with Javid Best in the backfield it was a different team. I couldn't tell you shyt about if your team player is worth it. I can tell you as a Lions fan that this deal for Stafford is a steal.

This is when he became OUR QB

I can't really cosign McNabb on this one...QB's are hard as fukk to come by nowadays. Stafford isn't a top TOP QB but he does do a serviceable job. You can't expect only the Aaron Rogers' of the world to be getting this kind of money nowadays when the QB position is more important than any other time in history.....when u get an above average level QB u lock him up and worry about the rest. Especially a team like the Lions who's not exactly top level material....Stafford seems happy there and will do a good job for them for years to come still so how is this a bad move in any shape or form. What other option did they have?

Stafford threw 3000 yards to Pettigrew, Bureleson and Titus Young :comeon:

He's played 2 full seasons, last season was a "sophmore slump" althoughI wouldnt call 5,000 yrds a slump. Touchdowns was the biggest difference but having no run game makes it tough.

Lions D is why they went 4-12 for the most part.

Yall hate on the god stafford, but you nikkas will bow down eventually.

I don't get why so many people are calling McNabb a hater like he went on twitter and started biting Stafford's back out...the dude is an analyst now and was giving his opinion on a player on an NFL news and opinion show.
What was he supposed to do say no comment when the subject of Stafford's extension came up?

Of course, he can say anything he wants. I just wish McNabb would have offered an alternative for the Lions if they wanted to move on from Stafford. He's just up there rambling that he doesnt deserve the money. Ok- who should the Lions pay to play QB then?
