not gonna lie I'm impressed you know about Edgware...or are you from London? I don't remember...

I think Illmatic has carried Nas' legacy more than the entirety of his career but that might just be me. If it wasn't pushed as the outright GOAT album, we wouldn't revere him in the same way. Rap fans and rappers alike can be very fickle. But Illmatic's greatness and Nas' lyricism cannot be denied. Those are top notch.

Bruv I told you from time Im from London. Im surprised you werent more up on Nas for that reason, since his albums have always been big here especially in the 90s and 00s. Man did his own Arena show here twice and when Stillmatic and God Son dropped everyone from the ends was up on him.

I would say even beyond Illmatic, if he didnt have that he still had It Was Written which was such a monster album that year and I am's antcipation was like a summer movie that year (and with Lost Tapes we know how it would have sounded without the dreaded bootleg wave of 99-01 which snake bit other artists like Mobb Deep, Black Rob, Ghostface )

I think even without that album he's still had these other chapters (It Was Written and Stillmatic ) thats why I've always viewed him in that space.

Sorry man I completely forgot...I cant even troll a London breh like that
:mjcry:

Yeah Nas has always been big in London I know that. Hell sometimes I feel he gets more respect here than in the US. But that's also the case with a lot of hip-hop legends overseas like Mobb Deep and Wu etc.

He has great albums beyond Illmatic but he needed that album. No other album is close, even IWW. He still would have had a great career without it but Illmatic really is his saving grace.

Anyway he just isn't for me. I know you know that anyway. So I won't continue the trolling (well some it if was...).

I pretty much agree with most of this. He has enough great work outside of Illmatic that he'd still be seen as a legend and brought up often but I still see Illmatic as by far his best work. Kinda like Snoop Dogg (although his case is much stronger)

Take from that what you will

Enjoy your weekend lol
what a shytty insult. not only is it outright racist but its not even clever as a comeback. of course u dont like nas, ur a witless racist coward
@hustlemania ur a staff member here, whats the science behind him still being allowed to post after that? buddy needs to fukk off back to ktt immediately :camby:

stop using illmatic as a copout like its his only good work. if u cant appreciate the message, take it in blood or even a single song off the lost tapes, u dont know shyt about hip hop

then again u dont know shyt about hip hop by default, given that ur an unabashed racist that views black ppl as gorillas

We're seeing a shifting of the guards. Multiple generations have fans who came up in eras where the amount Rushmore of rap was Pac, Big, Hov, Nas. That's my era, where everyone gave them props and you could tell what type of rap someone liked based on which of those four they liked the most.

But kids today turned the page on 90s rap a long time ago. They aren't interested. They like Pac on a mainly aesthetic level (his looks and personality); they may put his pic on their IG or tumblr but don't know the music.

Today the most influential rappers if you're 18-19 are...Gucci, Kanye, Keef, Future. Their impact on modern rap is unquestionable. It is what it is.

My problem with Lonzo is the disrespect. You don't gotta like Nas. Don't disrespt legends. That's wack.

What about Wayne and Drake?

stop it....there is a reason Nas is a consensus mount rushmore artist and Cube while great, isn't:pachaha:
Yea, it's called east coast bias.
Nas (and other east coast nikkas) are allowed to have musical failures such as illmatic considered classics despite the fact that they flopped and meant nothing in real time.
West coast rappers were never given that. They had to have clear success or be ignored.
Which is why the only west coast classics had to have notable success in real time.
Where as east coast flops could be talked up through east coast bias media.

He's revered by me as well. Changes nothing. Everyone was affected by east coast bias behavior. Not just people on the east.
It's easy to see.
Name a west coast album that gets illmatic props and had slow sales and basically flopped in real time.
The whole narrative of illmatic meaning something is based off east coast bias media.
Look at the facts, nasir's style, not new at all.
Nas used a few great producers first,LIE,heavy did it before him
.
Nas changed hiphop, nope he flopped and change his entire approach for his next album to find success.

My GOD that's a downright terrible collection of MC's to be the most influential in the genre

I wouldn't insult today's generation with that list. I'd say Kanye, Drake, Kendrick, Migos, and Meek Mill are the 18-24 groups most influential. And mayyyybeeeee we can throw J.Cole in the hat as well, he's way more popular than he's given credit for.
