Dope beats vs dope lyrics, which do you prefer?

I love me some mind blowing lyrics but if the beat is whack I just can't fukk with it.

On the contrary if the beat is banging and the lyrics are whack it's still tolerable.

Beats for sure. Flow and mic presence is more important to me than lyrics too.

It really depends on who's spitting on the dope beats...you can have a whole album of mediocre rappers(Livin' Proof for example) and they can make the album sound dope as hell because they fit. Ras Kass on SOI was brilliant, but the beats were mediocre as hell. It really all chalks down to my mood really. I used to just say lyrics because if its just dope beats you listen to why not get an instrumental, but I can't listen to an album like Livin Proof without the lyrics because it just works. Again, depends on my mood.
