Humans are so unnecessarily raggedy.
Judging by some of the answers, this poor woman would have been assaulted. A note was the smartest and most cordial move.

When I had an apartment in college it was me and 2 roommates. And niccas stayed called the office on us. Like 2 times management came over and then cops started coming and we later got on a “Final Warning” list

Funny thing is I'm currently having the exact same issue with the neighbour who lives above me. She moved in recently and I've already had to go up and have a word because she was hammering away at like 10pm putting furniture together. I was polite about it ofc and gave her the benefit of the doubt as she had just moved in, she was understanding though, apologised and said she'll finish it in the morning.
However since then I can hear her stomping and banging about up until like midnight/1am and it's becoming quite problematic. I don't get what she's doing up there but I'm probably gonna have to go up again and have another polite word. Funny thing is before her there was a couple who lived in the same apartment and I never had any problems with them at all.
OP I think the letter from your neighbour was fair and polite - if they wanted to be dikks about it they probably would have contacted the company that manages the tenancies in your building and put in a complaint.

Some of these passive aggressive responses in here are kinda like when a lame in a car pull up to a breh with a loud exhaust on the charger and try to tell them “your car is too noisy” my thing is go down another road then or in the case of the apartment move to somewhere quiet. The decision is up to the person with the problem and not the person they have issues with. Same people telling you to be quiet is same people being loud af in their apartment.

That's why I laugh at these new age condos and apartments..too close together and I can hear TVs when I walk past doors..lol. Hell fukking nah..thank goodness I don't have to deal with nonsense. 3 bedrooms, den, laundry room. And no one can tell me a damn thing.

They had a toddler that WOULD NOT STOP RUNNING. I told em listen. 10am to 10pm the lil muhfukka can run around as he pleased. Past 10 I don't want to hear shyt.
No issues since it's like 8 of them in a one bedroom they don't want any issues with management. Plus I'm cool with Grandma so she made sure lil breh stopped stomping on my fukking head at 2am

disrespectful stuff like this is why it is pointless to actually confront people. You know you live in an apartment. You know you are surrounded by other people. Nobody should have to hold your hand and tell you to be respectful.
Having a house is certainly better. But my philosophy is this. If you don't care I don't care either. If you continue making noises or disturbing neighbors in general I will put shyt in place to get you kicked out or at least have the landlord get sick of hearing about you. You have to care. But if you don't we can take it there. I'm not about to get into a fist fight with you over something neither of us even own. So I'll let the owners deal with your ass. If the landlord won't do anything I'll go over his or her head.

It was a joke. But, OP never indicated he was making noise on purpose or anything so some things can’t be helped. If it’s noisy, that is what it is. He shouldn’t have to tip toe around his place because someone else is mad. Consideration goes both ways. But, he said he would try to do better so it is what it is.
