I'm not sure that Russia has anything to gain by escalating this situation with the US and any "accidental" strike without a command and control breakdown on the US side allowing it to happen will look terrible for Putin. There will probably end up being more official military oversight of the actions of the Russian mercenaries going forward.

IMO I think it depends on if Russia really sees it as an accident. If they do, then downplaying and distancing themselves from the mercs is good for all sides as it gives the Russians an 'out' on retaliation and doesn't increase the stakes. If they view it as happening on purpose, they'll 'accidentally' kill some American mercs as retaliation and won't care about how it looks. It would look worse for Putin at home if he's openly allowing the US to kill his citizens with immunity.

Russian oligarchs don’t want war with America they want profit and they actually like America capitalism.

War is good for Russia atm. Restarting their military-industrial complex through Syria helped them downplay western sanctions and has opened up tremendous arms-export deals as well as new alliances that gave Russia a much stronger foothold on world geopolitics.

the way you see things is almost the opposite of the way putin's russia has been behaving. i'm not saying you're wrong but it everything you said is true then russia shouldn't be deliberately fukking with big bad uncle sam before he turns around and backhand slaps her. i think they feel they have real options or else they wouldn't provoke us. personally i want to see it.

The guys with the SDF are Special Forces and Marines... if they kill them even accidentally the pushback from the military who has already been given a free hand and from congress would reach a fever pitch....

The fact is the mercs assaulted a known US/SDF position, the US cleared it on the Russian hotline and then stopped the assault from the air in self-defense. I'm not sure how the Russians would view this as a provocation, so not seeing your point at all.
