I think ignoring that eugenics was not merely a White ideal, but something that the Black intelligentsia of the early 20th century was also steeped in seems disingenuous.
Even more so, I’d imagine Ben Carson being born of statutory rape to two poor Black parents that didn’t know what the fukk they were doing would likely have been the kind of fetus that would have been aborted.

I read Gifted Hands decades ago. There was a tv movie of his story made a few years ago and I couldn't remember how closely the film followed the book. In the film, they have a white hero character who "rescued" young Ben and his brother by giving his mother access to his personal home library.Her employer.
I cringed watching this part of the film...because there is a free public library in EVERY big city in America. I was personally offended by the scene.
I recorded films and tv shows for family overseas and I purposely edited out that nonsense. For those who have read the book recently, was this German character a real person?

Dude's accomplishments will forever and should forever be inspirational to black kids. His later c00n-type comments shouldn't take away from that.
