First week sales numbers are in for Dr. Dre's Compton: The Soundtrack. The album moved 278,558 units, slightly surpassing the projected number of 260,000-275,000 units.

Expectations were high for the album, driven by Dre's musical reputation, 16 years of anticipation, and star-studded features. It has not disappointed.

Despite its gaudy numbers, Compton clocked in at #2 on the charts, narrowly missing out on the top spot to country star Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights, which garnered over 320,000 sales in its first week. The next best-selling rap album was Future's DS2, which moved 15 thousand units in its fourth week on the charts.

To put these numbers in perspective, Drakes's If You're Reading This, It's Too Late moved closed to 500,000 in its first week, and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly moved 320,000.

Dre plans to donate his portion of the album's royalties to build a new performing arts center in Compton.

Impressive but we have to remember Interscope is notorious for buying some copies for first week numbers. I don't know how that would apply to iTunes sales but they did that with CDs back in the 90s so it's possible :manny:
either way its :manny: to me, glad 2 c Dre giving back to the community
