Dr. Dre is the greatest hip hop producer of all time. Hands down. Nothing overrated about him

His fall off was weird though

Like usually you could attribute it to someone who stopped using samples, which is completely understandable.

But then he did 2001 which was mainly not samples and was absolute fukking fire.

I think once it came to stop using samples, he got rid of the people around him making it still sound fire, and he could never be the same producer as much as he wanted to.

Like yeah i get it, he will layer 2000 sounds on top of each other and make it sound clear but the shyt is wack and has no soul.

He kinda went the same route rza went
He ALWAYS used samples, that never went away. Just the people arounmd him changed. He went from The Soul kitchen to the ICU. Samples remained but the quality dipped.

Yeah 2001 is an exception to the rule. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail over this but like I said I am a huge fan of Dre. But his 'productions' are not much more than mixing at this point.

When you look back at the credits for Compton and Missionary, who produced and co produced what songs are listed and received credit. I know producers like Focus and Cardiak played a huge role in production for Compton and Dre was focused more on the mixing side of things

Those albums aren’t the albums that made Dre who he is and are basically just legacy act albums, he’s coasting off his glory days now which was over 30 years ago

Dre is an amazing mixer but many of producers who’ve worked with him have said time and time again that Dr. Dre is a master of the craft.

Exactly; Dre’s work for Ruthless alone puts him in another stratosphere.

Then you factor in his work on The Chronic and Doggystyle. This era is an era any producer wishes they had in terms of work and impact. Those 2 albums alone were a damn domino effect on hip hop

That’s like a lifetime achievement in producing in hip hop when things change and get old so quick

Then after all of that, he emerges once again in 99 with 2001
People say this as if Premier didn't architect the NYC sound of the 90s:mjlol:

Dre is amazing but Premier is god.

I’m being subjective here buddy

Premier one of my favorites and if I’m being honest I like his work more than Dre’s

But Dre is a damn force to be reckoned with

He was already miles ahead with the Ruthless work but then you factor in The Chronic and Doggystyle

It’s game over lol

I’ve heard the stories

Daz programmed this, Warren had the sample to that.

I know, I’ve heard it all

End do the day, it was Dre’s ship and he was the captain conducting it all.

Those guys left and never went on to do anything that even rivals Dre’s work of the 80’s or 90’s

It is what it is

Preemo has more classics and if you go by random placements it's not really a contest. The only metric Dre 100% wins on is sales.
