I've finally come to the conclusion that DJ Quik is my favorite producer of all time.

...come on let's picture the possibility...
I've been thinking alot about these two lately and this discussion. I'm starting to see this differently now. When we say production we generally mean to make the instrumental. But we never factor in the mixing and mastering aspect. I think that Dre and Quik's real strength lies in how the instrumental is mixed and mastered to the point where the track can sound better than what it is. If that makes sense. The same way instrumentals are made at specific bpm's and by using specific notes to create hits, I think that Dre/Quik know on a somewhat scientific level how to mix and master in a way that is more likely to resonate with the listener in a positive manner.
