Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House medical adviser on the novel coronavirus, has shown no signs of slowing down or retiring anytime soon.

• If he did retire now, Fauci would be entitled to the largest retirement package in the U.S. federal government history, according to Forbes.

Forbes auditors at OpenTheBooks.com found that Fauci’s annual retirement would be higher than $350,000 per year. And his pension and benefits would rise because of cost of living adjustments in the years following his retirement.

• The high number comes because Fauci has worked for the federal government for 55 years.

Fauci was the most highly compensated federal employee for the second year in a row, earning more money than the president, four-star generals and his colleagues at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, according to Forbes.

• As I wrote for the Deseret News, Fauci made $3.6 million total from 2010 to 2019 while working for the U.S. government.

Fauci doesn’t have any immediate plans to retire, either. He told ABC’s Johnathan Karl that he wants to continue his work through the COVID-19 pandemic.

• “There’s no way I’m going to walk away from this until we get this under control,” Fauci said. “I mean, that’s the purpose of what we do. That’s — that’s our mission in life. In the middle of it, I’m not going to walk away.”
