"Misleading at best, total nonsense at worst" is how Julia Belluz describes her gut feeling over the years about the accuracy of Dr. Mehmet Oz's medical advice, she writes at Vox.com.

Now she's got science to back her up, thanks to a study published in the British Medical Journal that analyzed health recommendations from Oz's syndicated TV talk show, as well as nuggets from the popular The Doctors.

The researchers found that about half of the suggestions offered by these shows either contradicted what other scientific studies had found or had no verifiable evidence at all to stand behind them, and that potential conflicts of interest were seldom mentioned.

Dr. Oz is nice guy, I guess. :manny: He got vaulted to fame by Oprah. :manny: I don't watch the show so I haven't listened to any of his advice. :lolbron:

Dr Oz pushes alot of herbs on his show that people write off as "snake oil" or say the science is inconclusive, but the reality is they are effective and they do work.

You just cant compare modern Western Medicine and herbalism. Pharmaceuticals are a quick fix but often with dangerous side effects and inflated prices. Herbs work slowly, not necessarily all of the time but are way more powerful and safer than people realize

Oz isn't always right but neither is science

I thought he was the GOAT doctor:omggay:

Joking aside I used to watch that show with a combo of :futurama: and :rudy:

Half of it was bullshyt and fear mongering have you questioning everything around you and he presents it as pure fact.

Stop watching it precisely cause of that, and those corny reenactments.

when you deal with oprah, you deal in magical thinking, celebrity worship, and other foolishness that a certain subset of american housewives and baby mommas are into.

Yeah, but so is doing nothing. You may or may not get better in the long run, with no harmful side effects GUARANTEED.

That's why people believe holistic medicines are bunk. There's absolutely no way to differentiate it from no medicine at all. You can hope or pray you get better with practically the same rate of success.
