shyt, I'd say poker takes more skill than fantasy football. The only fantasy game that has some skill involved is roto baseball imo. And that's a year long struggle.

true but if youre unknowingly playing against the house in either instance youre basically flushing money down the toilet.

the marketing is also very shady and disingenuous. all the way from the snake oil "just pick your team and collect your cash" type nonsense, to the pretending its a 100% skill based game and not gambling (ive literally seen it compared to chess and spelling bees by the draftkings ceo himself), to the "deposit 200 bucks and we will match it" which isnt true at all since your match bonus unlocks as you play, typically having to risk into the thousands of dollars to get your bonus fully unlocked etc. instead of fighting along with sports betting to become legal and regulated nationally, it shunned sports betting as some nefarious underworld activity while passing itself off a skill game thats beyond reproach, even though its looked into by zero third parties and its obviously privy to quite a bit of seedy innerworkings

Well, there are a couple of things going on here. For one, calling anything a 100% based skill game is hilarious. But the real issue is that while there is a significant skill requirement to consistently win DFS - that isn't what the typical, every day [layer is paying for.

There are actually two games being played at once, and the typical gamer has no idea he's a fish. We have the skill part - the pros and programmers battling for small edges in scripting and algorithms among each other. This is where the true competition is and where skill is shining.

Then we have the entire DFS pool - which includes the fish and the pros. There is still some skill needed but it's typically pointless as you're up against players way ahead of the curve. This isn't usually a problem in normal games because if the bad players and fish couldn't survive or get better - the game would die. Good marketing can solve this but the fundamental problem still exists - the bad players/new players have no clue when they are in a game of skill or when they are just gambling.

When people ask me what games to play to make $$ at the casino I always tell them - take a few weeks to study Poker and Blackjack,. You might not win a lot but you'll up your chances of keeping $$, No Limit Texas Hold'em requires skill to consistently win. But even basic knowledge will help you beat a ton of new/bad players with ease.

That's true with any game that involves gambling pretty much. If dfs statistics was open to anyone and you could legit have only one entry per player it would've been much less transparent and more fair. Plain vanilla fantasy is fair unless teams collude because all teams use different players and everyone is in the same position. There is no informational adavantage

Those sites gonna eventually have to reveal the ownership % of players in real time to even give off the facade of being above level

You can get that info if you really want it. Either play a cheap game or join a website with that info.

Draftkings also has much looser pricing than Fan duel.

ESPN pulling sponsored daily fantasy sports segments from programming :skip:

On ESPN's "Outside the Lines," Bob Ley dropped some news into the start of a segment on recent "insider trading" DFS controversy.
"ESPN today continued running commercials for the two main daily sports fantasy companies, but has removed sponsored elements from within shows," Ley said, before throwing it to the panel for further discussion.

You can see the ownership percentages on Thursday just by playing a Thursday-Sunday game. The percentages don't change much between Thurs-Sunday unless there's a reported injury like Lynch last week and Rawls skyrocketed. Use that info to play Sunday games. I've never won really big, but I've had several 1k plus weekends. I had a lineup this weekend that scored 180 plus in the Sunday Million on draftkings. If I had of started Hurns instead of Cobb or Jones, I would have won the whole thing. That said, cheating takes place no doubt, but 99% of lineups are not cheating and thus if you do your homework, you can comeup off the 90% of people who are dead money.

I don't really understand what they did.

If they know the ownership percentage of players, they can make a lineup of likely high score guys with low ownership potential. This way, if he goes off, you're way ahead. Say for instance Julio is 25% owned but A. Brown is 5% owned, its better to play Brown because you'll differentiate your lineup if he goes off and those players have an equal chance of scoring 20-30 points. Also, in some of the contest with only 2-3 games where a maximum of 10 tds or so will be scored, you can easily build a lineup with all the good guys and then a couple low ownerships guys, and hope one of the low ownership guys hits big. If they do, you win.
