Even the new Meek and Ross songs is rapping about g-shyt neither of them live remotely anymore. I mean... the facade of rap music has been exposed for a long time...plus all these indictments, violence, deaths, social media, exposés, etc... the sheen isn't there anymore. The mystique isn't there.
Thats why people are just listening to more house/dance/r&b/vibe type music.
What can rappers really do anymore?
Yeah there will always be dope little songs that come and go but...it's so hard for rappers to blow people away anymore. It's just so much re-tread ground at this point.
