Let's play devil's advocate here and say he's nice and has some classic verses.

Who did he bring lyricism back to? Who is saying "yeah, I heard that Drake album and had to step my bars up?". And I don't mean a couple people....I mean where is this "lyricism" movement that Drake supposedly started? People are acting like Drake went around the country doing open mics on some Lyricist Lounge shyt and singlehandedly saved lyricism from the brink of extinction.

Hell, TI was lyrically nice and going plat before, during, and after Drake popped up. Nobody says he brought lyricism back though.
