Canadian rapper showing American rappers the blueprint lol, times really have changed
man, it's because he's Canadian and he's not full of himself like a lot of American rappers are. Dudes in Toronto listen to grime, hell I've been listening to Grime since I was like 15/16, i'm 24 now. Just last year some friends came up to me like "you gonna like this" and threw on a new Skepta song, that Kanye cosigned or whatever, and I had been trying to play people Skepta since I was 16 and they said "what is this Jamaican bumbaras bullsh*t?", the only people who would really listen were my brother and cousins. And that's because we're all musically inclined.
And that's why Drake can do that, Waka did a song with Giggs and so did Styles P, but most US rappers are institutionalized, stuck in their old neighborhoods even though it's been 10 years since they blew up and got a million dollars. Plus dudes don't love the craft, they love the money. They don't seek other flows from other parts of the world to see how they approach rhymes, or what beats sound good to them, or how their songs are structured.
Check this out, dudes sampling that fly like an eagle vocal, and his singer uses a Patrice Rushen flow from one of her songs "U Remind me" I believe. US Rappers don't be seeking out other countries stuff, to appeal to foreign lands or even just to change their sound and gain a better understanding of music. That's why the genre is so dead out, people just want to pimp it.
