why is it cool Hov mentioned SO MANY people throughout his career without saying their name. BTW it is cooler, and much harder to do. Saying someone's name is too easy. And those are Hov's words. Also rhyiming on someone else's beat was also mocked by Hov during a Angie Martinez interview years ago. He called it corny, he said who does that anymore? that shyt is played...but im paraphrasing.
The chin check Hov gave tho was just that. A respect thing. He had to say something about the comments Drake made. Its a ego thing. But what Drake said was entirely true. It wasnt a disss tho. Name dropping random cliche art names is fukking corny, whether u are rapping or just doing it in convos. When i see mofos rocking the overrated Basquiat on tee's i fukking laugh, they just doing it cause rappers mentioned the dude. Or when Ye used Murakami that shyt was fukking cornball too.
The only person to blend the artworld and their brand well is Pharrell. And he never or rarely does it in his music he just actually does collabos or does interviews with them on that Youtube channel he was hired for.

Rap is a confrontational artform. Hell half of all rap especially nowaday revolves around saying how much better you are than others. I'm not saying people need to make How To Rob 2014 or even make a Control verse. But sub disses are a real vagina way to deal with someone calling you out by name. Eff all that "im above beef" bullshyt. Competition breeds excellence, that's why some of these fukks are out here making so much garbage, no one is there to directly challenge them.
Sub disses aren't "cooler", in the real world, a nikka badmouthing you either confront the nikka or you say nothing and ignore him. But going on twitter or trying to sneak diss a nikka is bytch made. Why should rap be any different? Nowadays NO ONE wants to repeat big and pac, but Another Jay vs Nas? Heads would love that. Consumers LOVE rivalry, look at NY v Boston, UM vs. Ohio State or Real Madrid vs. Barcelona....PEOPLE LOVE CHOOSING SIDES.
nikkas aren't looking at this from a economic nor a publicity standpoint. Drake has ALOT to gain by going DIRECT at some one in terms of his cred and getting even more respect in the game. Hov can show the world he hasn't lost it. Either way a sub diss is a really soft way at saying "im too afraid to address this directly..."
I hope Hov comes back and takes it straight to his chest....Rap been too nice for too long. Its time to bring the edge back.
