It’s not that big of a deal. Drake has been with UMG for 16+ years. Of course they own a majority of his work even with renegotiations.

It is a big deal. It confirms he's still in a 360 and took the exact deal Hov clowned people for taking years ago. Big up front number with no real ownership. Which confirms why he's on tour and dropping albums every year now.
I'm not inherently opposed to a 360 deal depending on the artist. But you cannot pretend to be Hov while on that contract.
Where do you get 360 from that? If he is, then he is. But theres nothing that says any of this. A majority of Drake’s career …functionally all of it… and back catalog are on UMG. UMG has the publishing rights. He didn’t bounce around to like 7 labels. He’s not… the Clipse, ironically.
What other deal structures are we talking about? Would it say “we license his music” instead of “we have his publishing?”
It doesn’t say “masters” etc.
Again, I’m aware the word “360” doesn’t exist in contracts. I get this. I’m asking what words are we looking for to confirm this.
Also this makes that whole GAMMA convo interesting. I dont think we ever clarified if he was a silent owner too.
Dudes are taking the word “publishing” to mean “OVO merch goes to Lucian”. Its annoying in these threads cause its about the jokes and no one is any wiser about what the actual truth is.
Drake’s been signed since like 2009 or 2010. Of course UMG has all that. He never left. So for people to act dumb on this for the sake of jokes isn’t clarifying much.

Not Like Us was the knockout blow, Meet the Grahams was the psychotic diss, but Euphoria was always the most straight up etherous. Broke that man's essence down and dropped jewels that we're still discovering 18 months later.

The big tell is that they pay him a studio budget, own his publishing and masters lol. That's a 360. The label is invested in recouping via making the artist more popular and supporting their growth. At which point they hit you with bigger and bigger checks in hope that you continue to allow them to invest/own their career.
Once again there are massively successful artists who have signed similar deals across every genre, I'm not saying it's terrible across the board for every artist. But Drake should have the clout and cash to pay himself an album budget, partner with Roc Nation for tours, and earn as much $ as possible to buy his shyt from UMG instead of allowing that potential purchase price to go up and up. The fact of the matter is he doesn't care, he just wants the headline/big number to brag about. And given that he is ON RECORD saying he does not read contracts and lets his managers sign them...why should any of us assume he's smart enough to reach Hov's level of understanding.
Euphoria was prophetic nikka did a revelations type diss on his ass on that track.
