I'll put 2000 down on him not winning and nas finally getting one

Man I just did I wiki glance at the history of Hip Hop Grammy album nominations as well as solo performances and songs....and boy

Nas aint gonna win it....you can just tell looking at the list they go for whoever is on the radio the most and is a household name even in years when they had stronger nominess or that song or album didnt even make impact. Of course occasionally you're hit the mark (You cant deny Kanye, Lauryn/Fugees and maybe maybe Eminem and Wayne in there years but overall its very mainstream which we knew)
Heck sometimes the nominees are weak (That 2003 album list is pretty bad. Trantula and Born Sinner getting nominated over Gensis and Stillmatic is a bit of an eye opener..)


Really if you look at it historcally perhaps The Roots winning their category and maybe Meth and Mary winning theres are the most surprises (and even with Meth, it was more for Mary)


With other catergories they take chances and pick unlikely non pop choice (Steeley Dan randomly winning or Esmeralda Spalding), but unless the committee has gotten younger I dont know if they put super super debate into the winners. And even if they do, I still think it'll be people who have taste akin to Spin, Pitchfork, Village Voice and the usual list for freelance journalist who will definetly consider Drake sonically.


It'll break a pattern but I dont know..looking at the trend it doesnt seem so

Every solo album Kanye West and Eminem have ever released has won Rap Album of the year...Even Graduation and Relapse...



But if Drake is the favorite and there is gonna be an upset this year it will probably be 2Chainz....

But you right I always notice they just give it to the most CaC friendly artist historically to the point of comic predictablility that Em and Kanye were basically exchanging it some years.


They really fukked up giving to Luda that year tho lol I dont get into accusing award commitees of bias or popularity but dont you look at those winners some years and go "Yeah they didnt really listen to the albums" lol

I actually think they did a good job with chosing nominations this year...I would have found a way to put Killer Mike in there instead of The Roots but I realize they are critical darlings...

But I can see any of the nominees winning for different reasons and it being justified.. But Nas just doesn't have a high enough profile among voters imo..

Nas doesn't really stand a chance...Anyone that thinks so is going off of emotion instead of logic...

Yeah I guess technically you're right...But there really is no precedent for an album like LIG winning this award...It would be a complete change in the trend...
