The quality of the music isn't the point? :skip:

Taylor Swift and U2 must be on the same level as Stevie Wonder if we're taking raw numbers from cacs in flyover states as the determiner of an artist's legacy. Charts, grammys, and magazine covers are useless fanboy bullshyt, talk about the actual music.
drake doesnt make albums for quality like dot cole and ye etc. its for the "hits" and the rest of the albums are filler

Imo what makes a star truly special is when they could ‘drop a blank cd and go platinum’, but they still make quality music.

Bc when they’re in that megastar space where anything they drop is gonna be a hit, it’s hard to have quality control. It’s only in hindsight that people realize it was actually trash. 50 is a perfect example of this. After GRODT he made bullshyt that still sold

I say all that to say this: for the longest time Drake still made great music even as a megastar. Ie Nice for what, Gods plan.

When he fell off Imo is when he dropped ‘2 Sexy’ as his single :scust: I remember looking around confused like wait this is an utterly ATTROCIOUS song. He’s sampling Right Said Fred this is bad

Nobody checked it so he’s gon deeper into that hole of trash music. Hes lost his way
exactly this isnt a hating thread this is a thread pointing out how he's coasting on his brand. we gonna look back in a couple years and see how 2018 was the last good drake year.

:snoop:
He's not going for the same sound as those 3, it's easy listening, doesn't mean it's low quality.

Y'all really gotta stop with this shyt. The Massacre still gets play to this day, and was a respectable follow up to GRODT

Ryder Music
I'm Supposed To Die Tonight
Outta Control
In My Hood
Ski Mask Way
A Baltimore Love Thing
God Gave Me Style
I Don't Need Em

These songs can match up with everything on GRODT, it's just not a classic because it has some skips on it. The movie album was better than some nikkas magnum opus.

"Curtis" and beyond was dumpster music but 50 got a legit three peat and that's not even including Beg For Mercy or Game's debut. Knock it off :camby:

The problem with gauging the impact of Drake’s hits is, the consumption of music is happening at such an accelerated rate that it’s hard to tell what is really leaving a mark on the culture.

nikkas is cappin if they saying Drake still ain’t the biggest & dropping the hottest music. But at the same time, some of these hits are microwaveable popcorn.

I think it’s a valid criticism when people say question his credentials (ghostwriting shyt aside), as Drake really has no peers. Which is really weird when it comes to the genre of hip hop specifically. Having no peers or threats as a rapper is bizarre and never really occurred in previous eras, which points towards a decline in the mainstream talent pool.

Making Drake’s dominance still legitimate yet appear manufactured at the same time

exactly post 2018 these so called hits are "it debuted at #1 or #2 then thats it. its not reaching everyone or being everywhere like gods plan was or nice for what.

for him to be rap's biggest star which is objectively undeniable the shyt he has been dropping has not been that impactful outside of it being attached to his name. the songs do not stick. that too sexy shyt on CLB was a dud.

The stream game will always chart him but in terms of multiple records outside there’s still one off each album in this recent run even if it don’t feel like a lot compared to his other runs

Laugh Now Cry Later
Life is Good
Way 2 sexy
Sticky
Massive
Rich Flex

You definitely hear these out and about and on peoples reels and shyt

But I get what you mean. I think what might also be happening is because he’s turning around dropping another project quick and don’t work the records cause he don’t need to you don’t see them or hear them overtime as the older stuff

But people seem to know the words anyway to stuff like TSU and that’s that playlist era

Drake fell off after Scorpion. Which is OK. Its just the next generation didnt replace him yet.

The way him Cole n em replaced Hov when he was out here dropping shyt like BP3 and Magna Carta.
Album wise it started at Views, but still had impactful singles well into Scorpion. Covid killed off Toosie Slide though.

The last real "Drake Hit" to me was God's Plan.

Cant even think of anything that hit that level post that song.
Yeah God’s Plan was literally everywhere. It was unavoidable whether people playing it out in their cars, Tv commercials, during games, etc. These latest Drake singles don’t at all have that same feel. I really liked that Her Loss album, and I mostly heard those tracks cause I played them a lot myself :russ: But Toosie Slide, Way 2 Sexy, Jimmy Crooks, Girls Want Girls, etc., didn’t at all hit like God’s Plan and other singles around that same period despite being high on the charts. (I did mix up Views/Scorpion though, but basically, Drake’s 2016-2018 singles hit far better than ones after that.)
