Really just feels like a fishing expedition at this point. He wanted the contract information so he could add some shyt into his sub disses and to make himself feel better about making more money. He wants playlist and other info so he can demand that shyt in his next contract (spoiler alert: UMG already does all that for him).

Im certain these major record labels do thorough investigations on the artist they sign in order to clean up their image and hide the skeletons.


This seems like Drake is trying to force UMG to reveal any potentially damaging information they found on Kendrick as a last ditch effort to get some type of proof of what he claimed. Like he's trying to force the label to prove his allegations for him.

Drake is trying to get some win where even if he gets some semblance of a victory his legacy is tarnished forever because most people already have their minds made up. Doesn’t really work like that. Nothing is stopping UMG from asking for the same evidence from him regarding the timeline of his conversations and relationships with minors or women that close to it in age. There’s nothing from that asking for discovery to validate everything said in the lead up to Not Like Us that would lead someone to reasonably conclude what K Dot did. The same questions Kendrick could ask - they could ask. He didn’t say Kendrick because he thought his “it’s bigger than music” angle would resonate and it’s not because the influencers ain’t on his side and UMG not paying anymore. UMG simply expected this dumb shyt to be dismissed and didn’t know that he would go this far. They’re going to object to most of his demands as irrelevant and the judge will have to force them if he thinks it is.

I believe Drake heard that story about Top Dawg and assumed it was about kendrick, but he didn't have proof so he's trying to force UMG to reveal anything they know. TDE did hire a crisis management team to clean up Top beating his girl, and that story was scrubbed from the internet.

Kendrick was also in some legal shyt between DAMN and Mr. Morale as he removed himself from the label. I'd imagine Drake or his team were wondering why did Kendrick take so long to drop an album, why was he in court, etc. And that period coincides with Top's (alleged) period of abusing that woman so it makes sense Drake would get it confused.
