I know hes Canadian but he's not popular because of Canada breh.

America controls that market.

But we're talking about a Canadian artist with a Jafakian accent sampling a British song breaking records in the UK.

Crazy how well views is doing with no videos... Well except hotline bling. Shows that sometimes the best medicine is not over saturating the market

Those two joints Controlla and One Dance had some crazy staying power without a video :merchant:

How many physical copies has that album sold?

Congrats to him, but with the fuzzy numbers they using now I don't expect these records to last that long
What's the difference? How many digital copies did Country grammar move?:sas1:

American?

He came out only rapping about Toronto.

:snoop:

Breh...his first mixtape was put out in the South via DJ Smallz. Not by DJ Canada.

His second and third mixtapes, the ones that really blew him up, heavily featured Lil Wayne. One of them was put out through his imprint from the AMERICAN label Warner Bros.

All his big guest features as he was coming up were American artists. He put out his music in the American market. He started as an artist in America because Canada is not a big market. That's why 100,000 is a huge mark for them.

He started as an American artist from Canada who rode the wave of the South, even trying to copy accents and slang.....

What do you mean by American artist, if you rap about where you come from and that is Toronto how are you American? Because you release it in the US? Dude had TV shows interviewing him at his mums home in Toronto. And all of his mixtapes were on OVO (or it's previous name ATF, all things fresh). The single with Trey Songz was distributed by Treys label, Warner. There were no big features from Canada, Kardinal Offishall was the only one, and he was on the tape. All his unknown features, producers, rnb singers and shyt were Canadian except Nickelus F. I mean on So Far Gone he had two two songs with Danish or Swedish artists, was he trying to be Scandinavian?

When you googled him, it didn't say Drake is an American rapper. It said Drake is a Canadian artist, based in Toronto, Canada. Staying in hotels in Mississippi, TX, Ga, FL and NY doesn't mean you are from there. I don't know if you followed Drake, but I did and there was no indication that he was "American", besides the rare occasion when he mentioned that his dad was from the south.

What American rapper goes out talking about "I'm trying to get that house in Toronto with pine floors" and shyt like that. Promoting your shyt on the largest market != saying that you are from that market.

Started putting music out in America, established his presence in America first, first market to sell his music in, majority of his guest appearances and help have come from American based artists such as Lil Wayne and Kanye West. He did not start his career in Canada. He did not blow up in Canada then come to the US. He is an American rapper who is from Toronto. He sure as hell didn't hit the pavement sounding like a guy from Toronto. He wasn't aboot anything but sure seemed to like to talk about SIPPIN on lean.

Trey Songz is an American artist, DJ Smallz distributed the mixtape, why didn't he use a Canadian singer for the single? Why didn't he hit up a Canadian DJ? Because you need to make it in America, in Hip Hop, in order to blow up. Not Canada, Not UK, which is what I was getting at before you came soaring in to start an argument.

So Far Gone had a video directed by Kanye West, a song produced by Kanye West, features from American artists Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Bun B, Omarion, and Santigold. So stop being dense. You are purposely leaving this all out because you are a Drake stan. You know all this but want to play dumb so you can argue. He wanted to give off the idea he wasn't a lame Canadian but actually a connected guy who had roots in the South because of his dad. That's why he plays up the Black dad/memphis angle and not the white jewish mom from Toronto angle when he first came up.

Wow so he mentioned Toronto in lines? No WAY! Wow. Too bad the major hits are named shyt like HOUSTLANTAVEGAS and not TORONEWYORKC. He shouted out the South a ton too.

Nothing you are saying is making sense, does working with Americans (when 99.99% of all hiphop active people live here) make you American? If you say that you are from Toronto, you are from fukking Toronto. Houstonatlantavegas is about when he started ballin in strip clubs when he was out with Jas and those dudes, so he can't make a song about it? Dude moves around in the US, that's pretty damn established. Cause it's where the industry is based, the hoes, the parties, producers, artists, execs all that.

Just cause Baseball players come and play in the MLB with an American fukking agent doesn't mean that they are fukking American. It's like saying that Kanye isn't from Chicago cause he moved from there before he blew up, even though all he does is rep Chicago. What the fukk are you talking about?

Don't bother I don't get it. He's born in Toronto, grew up there, reps it in his music and calls the US his second home. That's all I need to know, the other definitions are not for me.
