Nah…outside of the noise, Drake is still very obviously the main character in rap…he’s just at the top of the card as a heel…even all the over the top Kendrick heralding this past year is damn near just as much about some kinda “aha! Gotcha!” comeuppance towards drake as it is Kendrick’s defining moment…all these dudes spending every day obsessing over Drake’s every move, making a thread for every haircut or tattoo he gets…playing this stupid game of pretending releasing the #2 song in America outta nowhere is a sign of collapse…all the fan fiction, the psychoanalysis …the Joe Budden class of failed rappers turned professional gossipers having fake-serious 30 min in depth breakdowns of whatever silly ass Drake topic is trending every fukking week for views…everyone’s just as invested as they always were…in real life the music never stopped spinning..Nokia, Someone to Love To Me, and now this jawn have been added to the catalog and be played for years
J. Cole on the other hand spent the prior two years building himself up to the point where last year was supposed to be the biggest of his career…The Fall Off had legit anticipation and he was prone get his first chip/MVP…he surrendered all that shyt to Kenny, and now that whole run was wasted…back to square one…I’m almost certain he scrapped a good portion of the whole joint because it gotta bunch of “god mc” posturing that sounds ridiculous now…that’s a whole multiple year album rollout and cycle that he’ll never get back…and whenever he tries to heat back up he’s STILL gonna face resistance from fans and media…he absolutely should’ve fought back, he would’ve faired better cause he doesn’t have this cartoonish hatred baked in the cake for him like Drake
