The Patois accent in Toronto is the go-to accent for young impressionable teens. You'll see white kids, latinos, as well indian and Tamil folk using it too, very cringeworthy. Half-Jewish child actor Drake probably used it growing up, and then brought it back a few years ago when the Houston/ATL slang was starting to get stale. If you repeat something enough, people will eventually believe you. Especially when you're backed by some of the biggest and most powerful corporate entities in the entertainment industry
